This is really the best blog ever.

Movies watched in September 2011 | October 3, 2011

The usual – 1-2 lines about each movie (non-spoilery):

172) Sharpe’s Rifles (1993) – (9.1) – 7/10 – Great cast, decent story, will certainly watch the next one in the series.
173) The ward (2011) – (9.4) – 6/10 – A good story, enjoyable, decent suspense. Not Carpenter’s best movie (They Live, The Thing, Halloween), not his worst, either.
174) Dial M For Murder (1954) – (9.5) – 6/10 – Enjoyable but not extremely realistic/believable when it came to the police work.
175) What Dreams May Come (1998) – 6/10 – Bit too heavy on the schmaltz for my liking, but still a touching, and at times, powerful, movie.
176) Arn: The Knight Templar (2007) – 8/10 – Highly enjoyable action-drama about a Knight Templar and his batles in the Holy Land as well as home in (the lands that would become) Sweden. Most excellent casting.
177) I Saw The Devil (2010) – 2/10 – (9.6) – Gave up about halfway through. I didn’t mind the graphic brutality, instead the pacing was slow,, there’s little emotional or intellectual involvement. The killer is unimpressive and unengaging. Don’t waste your time.
178) Trollhunter (2010) – 10/10 – (9.7) – Hey, it’s The Blair Witch Project done right! Awesome movie, great use of the mythology. Me likey a whole lot.
179) Attack The Block (2011) – 10/10 – (9.10) – OMG, this was just incredibly fun.
180) Season of the Witch (2010) – 7/10 – (9.11) – A good popcorn flick, nothing exceptional in the writing, but it’s an enjoyable movie. Excellent cast.
181) Hoffa (1992) – 6/10 – (9.13) – Not bad, nothing terribly special.
182) Elizabeth (1998) – 7/10 – (9.15) – Enjoyable, a bit slow at times, but the excellent cast more than makes up for it.
183) Apollo 18 (2011) – 8/10 – (9.17) – Highly enjoyable “found footage” story about a secret mission to the Moon and the strange events that transpired. I jumped multiple times in my seat.
184) The Sting (1973) RW – 10/10 – (9.20) – Classic, just as good as I remember it.
185) Papillon (1973) – 8/10 -Excellent performances, a couple slow bits, but totally enjoyable. Nice to see McQueen stretch his acting muscles.
186) Howl (2010) – 10/10 – A most amazing movie and story. Highly recommended to anyone with appreciation of poetry, personal freedom/rights, book history, censorship, history, or just damn fine storytelling.
187) The State Within (2006) – 8/10 – BBC mini-series, very well done political intrigue drama. Great cast.
188) Wrecked (2011) – 6/10 – Good but a little flat – Adrien Brody delivers (as always) but it seemed to be lacking a little punch.
189) The Bank Job (2008) – 10/10 – (9.26) – Very fun bank heist movie, great acting and cast.
190) Kick-Ass (2010) RW – 10/10 – Watched with Heather, two time zones apart. Love this movie.
190) Little Miss Sunshine (2006) – 9/10 – (9.29) – What a fun, silly movie. Alan Arkin steals the show, but everyone else rocks, too. A lot of fun!

Hmm, best movie of the month is hard to call. I’m gonna say it’s a 3 way tie between Attack The Block, Howl and Trollhunter.
Worst movie: This one’s easy – I Saw The Devil was just crap.
