This is really the best blog ever.

May 2011 Movie List | June 4, 2011

76) Husk (2010) – 4/10 – (5.1.11) – Yawn. Such a disappointment, considering it’s an After Dark movie.
77) Army of Darkness (1992) (RW) – (5.5.11) – 10/10 – Classic.
78) The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe – 4/10 – Meh. Very much a story for children.
79) The Dark Crystal (1982) (RW) – (5.6.11) – 10/10 – Love this movie, haven’t seen it in almost 20 years.
80) Bronson (2008) – (5.7.11) – 10/10 – Wow, what an amazing performance by Tom Hardy. Just a wild, crazy story. Intense and brutal.
81) Mortal Kombat: The Movie (1995) (RW) – (5.8.11) – 8/10 – Cheeseball, corny and yet oh-so-good and funtastic.
82) Up (2009) (RW) – (5.9.11) – 10/10 – Makes you laugh, makes you cry. Wonderful storytelling, excellent animation and acting.
83) Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead (2009) – 10/10 – Wow, this movie was so funny and silly it just worked. Over the top and understated at the same time.
84) Raging Bull (1980) – (5.11.11) – 6/10 – A rather slow movie with some very good performances.
85) Gangster No. 1 (2000) – (5.12) – 5/10 – I wanted to like this a lot more but it just kinda fell flatter than it should have with the cast.
86) Aaah! Zombies! (2007) – (5.14) – 9/10 – This was really cool – told from the zombies point of view, and they don’t even know they’re the infected ones for most of the movie. Silly, but a lot of fun.
87) The Young Victoria (2009) – 5/10 – A rather slow movie, and not as great as it could have been – once again, great cast, script not as great.
88) Black Dynamite (2009) – (5.15) – 10/10 – A totally awesometastic riff on the Blacksploitation movies of the 70s. Fantastic ending.
89) Last Night (1998) – 4/10 – Slow, boring, tepid movie.
90) Trinity and Beyond (1995) – (5.17) – 8/10 – Very fascinating documentary on the atomic/nuclear testing of the 40s, 50s and 60s. Narrated by William Shatner and features awesome, horrifying, beautiful footage of the blasts.
91) The Horde (2009) – (5.18) – 9/10 – French horror film – a group of cops and drug dealers team up to stay alive when a horde of demonic/zombie/mosnter types run rampant in the city. Brutal, fun, awesome.
92) Pierrepoint: The Last hangman (2005) – 7/10 – Dramatization of the life of Albert Pierrepoint, England’s “best” executioner for 22 years. Very good.
93) Severance (2006) – (5.18) – 9/10 – Freaking awesome movie, wanted to see this for years – that special comedy/horror blend that is just so much fun.
94) Made in Britain (1982) – 6/10 – Compelling performance by a very young Tim Roth, but the script goes nowhere.
95) ZA: Zombies Anonymous (2005) – 10/10 – If you love B movies and zombies, you’re gonna love this. Wonderfully done, a portmanteau of comedy, suspense, horror.
96) Deadline (2004) – (5.19) – 7/10 – Documentary about Illinois Governor George Ryan’s last act, where he granted clemency to all 156 people on Illinois’ Death Rows.
97) Creep (2004) – (5.20) – 4/10 – Extremely tepid story about a girl being hunted by a subterranean monster in London’s underground. Could’ve been much, much better with a decent script.
98) Red Riding Trilogy: Part 1 – 1974 (2009) – 6/10 – Interesting, great cast, a little meandering at times. Def will watch the next part of the trilogy
99) Masters of Horror: Joe Dante’s The Screw Fly Solution (2006) – (5.21) – INC – This was so horrible, I couldn’t get through the first 30 minutes. Complete tripe, just a mishmash of bad acting, overacting, and a conglomeration of insipid stereotypes.
100) Star Trek (2009) (RW) – 10/10 – Seriously, awesome movie. Haven’t seen it since opening weekend. Fantastic relaunch, it manages to revitalize the franchise without devaluing what went before.
101) The Long Good Friday (1980) – 9/10 – (5.22.11) – Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren in an awesome British gangster story.
102) Ever Since The World Ended (2001) – 7/10 – (5.26.11) – Very cool understated movie, a documentary filmed in a world, 12 years after a plague wipes out most of humanity.
103) Agora (2009) – 8/10 – A most excellent drama about early Christianity in Alexandria and the life of Hypatia, a noted Greek scholar and mathematician. Amazing cast, excellent production.
104) The Damned United (2009) – 9/10 – (5.28.11) – Great actors, excellent story, great movie.
105) Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (2003) – 4/10 – Nothing very special about this – the martial arts and stunts (especially during the chase scene) were most excellent, but the plot was steeped in mediocrity.
106) Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (RW) (2008) – 10/10 – (5.29) Wonderful, wonderful, it was time for a revisit.
107) When We Were Kings (1996) – 7/10 – Quite excellent documentary on the Ali-Foreman fight in Zaire. Focuses on the background going ons moreso than the fight itself, and is a fascinating story.
108) Army of Crime (2009) – 4/10 – Extremely tepid story of the French Resistance during the Occupation.

Best movies – Bronson leads the pack, closely followed by Zombies Anonymous, The Horde and of course rewatches UP and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog need be mentioned.
Worst movies – The Screwfly Solution
