Tales for Tails – calling all writer-types | May 19, 2011

So, I’m thinking of putting together an ebook and selling it as a fund-raiser for The West Volusia Humane Society, the animal shelter I used to work for and still volunteer with. I figure a collection of short stories, essays and poems? (To avoid any tender sensibilities, any essays would have to be topical – either about animals, about volunteering, donating, something along those lines. Any stories and poetry don’t have to be about animals – though that would be cool – but let’s keep it all rated PG or PG-13?)

I’m looking to get a diverse group of writers with different styles, stories, thought processes and lifestyles together to do this. If you’re interested, please email me (TERRYFL at the gmail place), tweet at me (cr8dv8) or if you have another method of getting ahold of me, that works too.

Being an ebook, there shouldn’t be any cost – just have to get everything together and get it formatted properly (which I don’t know the first thing about, so if someone wants to donate that time to the project, it’d be greatly appreciated.) Everyone who contributes would get full credit in the ebook and elsewhere.

So, who’s interested?

  1. How about a soft sci-fi piece about animals on another world? Story thrust would primarily be the bonding that happens between a companion animal and its…. well, human isn’t right either. Though she kinda looks like one. 🙂

    • Sounds pretty cool to me! A story about an animal and her person sounds like a good fit.

  2. Keep in mind that you should also be looking for pimps. The product has to go out to a place where it gets read. It can be the best work out there but gets dust because nobody knows about it. You may not be concerned about making a buck but it has to be visible.
