This is really the best blog ever.

Movies watched in March 2011 | April 5, 2011

Spoiler-free comments, so don’t worry.

52) You Weren’t There: The History of Chicago Punk 1977-1984 – (3.4.11) – 7/10
– Good documentary on a scene that I knew nothing about, so very informative.
53) Green Hornet (2011) – 5/10 – (3.5.11) – I could have done without the comedy. It was too over the top on the cheeseball factor for me to truly enjoy. Other than that, it wasn’t a bad movie – fight scenes were well done, F/X good. Oh, and it’d been nice if they could decide if they wanted to be a violent action or a kid’s film, it seemed that half the combats were done one way, and the other half the other.
54) Eastern Promises (2007) – 8/10 – (3.9.11) – drama based thriller, not an action-based, so I see why a lot of people thought it was “slow”. I pity people who can’t sit still long enough for a story to develop.
55) Watchmen: Director’s Cut (2009) (RW) – 10/10 – (3.10.11) – I really enjoyed this movie in the theatres, time for a revisit.
56) Tron:Legacy (2010) – 6/10 – (3.14.11) – Very pretty, visually stunning, bet it was awesome on a big screen, but ultimately nothing special.
57) Rise of the Footsoldier (2007) – 6/10 – (3.16.11) – The true story of Carlton Leach, a young Essex man who rose to power in the underworld. Pretty good, but I’ve seen better Brit true-life gangster films recently.
58) The Boys of Baraka (2005) – 5/10 – (3.21.11) – Ultimately disappointing documentary about a bunch of poor black kids sent to a school in Africa.
59) The Planet of the Apes (1968) (RW) – 10/10 – (3.25.11) – One of my fave movies ever, a classic.
60) The Next Three Days (2010) – 5/10 – (3.27.11) – Not a “Bad” movie, just not very good. Seemed very bland, a bit cookie-cutterish. Performances weren’t bad, again, just not very good. (And I like Russell Crowe.)
61) Get Low (2010) – 8/10 – A great cast, wonderful dialogue, plot’s a little on the slow side, but still very good.
62) Four Lions (2010) – 10/10 – (3/28/11) Holy shit, this was a fucking hilarious movie! A bunch of would-be jihadists, who barely know their head from their arses, plan a bombing in London.

Looks like I’ve been watching less movies this year than last, but I have been catching up on a lot of television that I never saw – you can expect a post about Rescue Me in the near future.
